Setting up SMTP Authentication for Outlook Express (for Macintosh)

Instructions


Step 1: Using the  Tools menu in Outlook Express, select the Accounts option. Select the Mail tab in the resulting window. [Tools -> Accounts -> Select the Mail tab]

This will open the Accounts window where the mail accounts are listed.

Step 2: Select the POP/SMTP account which you will be changing and then click the "Edit" button. [Accounts Window -> Select account to change and click Edit]

This will then open the Edit Accounts window where POP and SMTP configuration changes are made. The POP account information will already be filled in.

Step 3: Click the "Click here for advanced sending options" which is located at the bottom of the window. [Edit Accounts Window -> Click here for advanced sending options]

This will open a menuless window where advanced SMTP settings are made.

Step 4: In the resulting window, check the box next to "SMTP server requires authentication" and select the radio button next to "Use same settings as incoming mail server". Then enter your e-mail username and password in the given boxes and check the "Save Password" box. [Check SMTP server reqires authentication and the radio button by Use same settings as incoming mail server -> Enter username and Password -> check Save Password]

In order to complete the process, close the above windows by clicking on any "OK" buttons or other window closing mechanisms.
