SMTP EMAIL AUTHENTICATION TUTORIAL - Netscape 7 MAC

Setting up SMTP Authentication for Netscape Mail 7 (for Macintosh)

Instructions

Step 1: Using the Netscape 7 Window menu, select the Mail & Newsgroups option. Window -> Mail & Newsgroups

This action will open the Mail & Newsgroups window, where POP and SMTP accounts settings are listed.

Step 2: In the Mail & Newsgroups window, select any account and click "View settings for this account" in the right-hand pane. Mail & Newsgroups Window -> Select Account -> View settings for this account

This action will open the Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings window where SMTP configuration settings are made.

Step 3: Now in the Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings window, select "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" in the left pane. The server name will already be specified.  Click the box next to "Use name and password" and fill in your e-mail username if not listed. Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings Window - Outgoing Server -> Click Use name and password -> Enter in email

Click on the "Advanced..." button to open the Advanced Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings window.  This will open the Advanced Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings window which lists all of the SMTP services/servers being used throughout the Netscape Mail application.  Since there is a need for only one SMTP server to send e-mail, it is best to delete extraneous SMTP services.  Step 4 shows how to do this.

Step 4: In the Advanced Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings window, delete any SMTP services except the one associated with your account. Advanced Outgoing Server Settings -> Delete all non TTU servers

After closing the above windows, Netscape 7 will then be configured to use SMTP authentication.
