SMTP EMAIL AUTHENTICATION TUTORIAL - Netscape 6 MAC

Setting up SMTP Authentication for Netscape Mail 6 (for Macintosh)

Instructions

Step 1: Using the Netscape 6 Tasks menu, select the Mail & Newsgroups option. [Tasks -> Mail & Newsgroups]

Step 2: In the Mail & Newsgroups window, click "View settings for this account" in the right-hand pane. Mail & Newsgroups -> Click View Settings for this Account]

This action will open the Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings window where SMTP configuration settings are made.

Step 3: Now in the Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings window, select "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" in the left pane. The server name will already be filled in, so all you have to do is to click the box next to "Use name and password". [Account Settings -> select Outgoing Server (SMTP), Click OK]

This will open the Advanced Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings window which lists all of the SMTP services/servers being used throughout the Netscape mail application.  Since there is a need for only one SMTP server to send e-mail, it is best to delete extraneous SMTP services.  Step 4 shows how to do this.

Step 4: In the Advanced Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings window, click on the "Advanced" button and delete any SMTP services except the ones associated with your account. [Advanced Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings -> Click advanced, delete non TTU accounts]

After closing the above windows, Netscape 6 will then be configured to use SMTP authentication.

You're Done !
